Considering the abundance of supplements and advertising that exist in the fitness industry, there are good arguments to answer with a yes.

Athletes obviously have different protein intake requirements than the average person, as they burn more calories and need more food. However, too much of anything can be harmful, and protein is no exception.

Increased protein intake stimulates muscle growth by stimulating the growth hormone, but studies have shown that excessive protein intake can result in health complications like cancer and heart disease under certain situations.

Professional athletes may be able to eat as much as 3.5g per kg of body weight without any side effects, but any more than that is definitely not recommended.
