Why you may find it hard to loose weight!!

Is your number 1 master hormone Leptin working for you or against you?

Leptin-the Satiety hormone plays a crucial role in appetite and weight control. A properly working Leptin system leads to a better metabolic performance, brain function, mental sharpness, memory, coordination, and can even affect mood and emotions, but when it has been blocked it can lead to obesity.

Researchers have revealed that women have twice as much active fat burn Leptin than men, which is the good news, however researchers have found that women are three times less responsive to leptin signals to burn fat, this is call Leptin resistance.

Leptin resistance when the brain doesn’t receive the leptin signal, it erroneously thinks that the body is starving, even though it has more than enough energy stored.

This makes the brain change our physiology and behaviour in order to regain the fat that the brain thinks we’re missing

More women go on fab diets than men, dieting drops Leptin levels so is your diet causing your metabolism to slow down, which is sometimes the reason you can have the rebound effect.

When child bearing your body keeps leptin signals in active, all your body cares about is doing its job of keeping the baby warm and comfortable. This is why it can be an uphill battle against losing the weight after child birth. Your leptin switch could be turned off.

Do exercises that target fat cells. Simply shedding numbers on a scale will not be good enough if you want to improve your body’s leptin response. You’ll need to burn off as many fat cells as you can. One way you can achieve this is to build muscle which helps you burn fat why sitting at home on your couch or if you have a sedentary job. Although obese people have leptin in their system, their appetites are rarely quenched because they have developed a resistance to leptin, or a leptin resistance, via their fat cells.

Researchers are saying since leptin is a hormone that is produced in your adipose tissue, there aren’t any leptin-rich foods that will cause your leptin levels to rise. There are foods, however, that can help to increase or decrease your leptin sensitivity. If your leptin channels are not functioning correctly, eating foods like Chilli, Kale, Spinach, Broccoli, and Red capsicum to increase leptin sensitivity may help to restore the way leptin signals your brain to shut off your appetite and begin burning fuel. That increase leptin sensitivity (decrease leptin resistance)

Research done at the Laval University in Quebec found those 7-8 hours of sleep each night, on average, was associated with relatively higher levels of leptin. In contrast, getting less sleep meant lower levels of leptin and higher body mass index in the study.  This can be hard when you have a young baby.


So do you have high levels of leptin which speeds up the body’s metabolism signals to burn fat?

Or lower levels of Leptin that slows your body’s metabolism, which causes your body to store fat.

Could your exercise program be mainly male ordinated, are you mainly eating process foods.

So maybe now it’s time to start your body’s metabolic overdrive and turn your Leptin switch on.

Just remember the process of fixing your hormones takes time, and during that time your fat loss progress will be slow. Always be compassionate with yourself…for compassion brings success.
